4 detained; arms seized in Assam ahead of I-Day

GUWAHATI: Ahead of Independence Day, Assam Police in a late night operation on Wednesday raided three houses in the Sonapur and Khetri areas on the outskirts of the city and recovered arms and ammunition along with narcotic substances.

Four persons were apprehended in connection with the hidden items.

According to an official statement issued here on Thursday, a search team lead by assistant commissioner of police, Sonapur assisted by commandos deputed by deputy commissioner of police (East), raided two houses at Jogukuchi, Sonapur under Sonapur police station.

Two persons Pradip Deka, 35, and Apurba Medhi, 26, were apprehended from the houses.

Based on their confession, the team searched another house at Pakhiyabari, Teteliguri under Khetri police station. During the raid, the team recovered one country-made revolver, five rounds of 9mm live ammunition and nine packets of suspected brown sugar.

The team seized all the recovered items along with four mobile handsets.

Two other persons, Rana Deka, 34, and Rafi Khan from Thoubal district of Manipur, were also apprehended.

The officers-in charge of Sonapur and Khetri police stations assisted the team in the search.
