JOWAI: The transporters associations in Jaintia Hills have lamented the state government’s inability to assist in the implementation of the government order which had raised the rate of transportation.
“It seems that the state government is not ready to help us,” the All Jaintia Cement and Clinker Transporters Association president, Balen Thubru, said, while adding that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar have postponed two meetings with the association.
The postponement was due to the lockdown on one occasion and because the chief minister had to go for self-isolation after returning from Manipur, but now there is no more lockdown, he said. The clinker and cement transporters from across the state, particularly from Jaintia Hills, are not happy with this government as they have failed to resolve the issue, he added.
The government has issued a notification to hike all transportation charges but cement plants in East Jaintia Hills refuse to implement the order.
”We are demanding our own rights as per notification, if the government will not help us, we have other options and we know what to do”, Thubru said.
The JAC including All Jaintia Cement and Clinker Transporters Association, Meghalaya Truckers Union and Jaintia Hills Trucks Owners Association was formed to fight against the big companies dominating in trade.
