I-Day: State felicitates COVID-19 warriors

SHILLONG/TURA/NONGPOH/NONGSTOIN/JOWAI, MAWKYRWAT: Along with the rest of the country, the 74th Independence
Day was celebrated across the state on Saturday.
In capital Shillong, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of three Parade Contingents comprising CRPF, 1st MLP Bn. and Meghalaya Police Radio Organisation and brass band of Border Wing Home Guards.
On the occasion, he presented citations to Dr. N Wanswett, DHS (MCH & FW) in recognition of the work and courage of 71 healthcare frontliners engaged in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and who, in the process, contracted the virus.
Home Guards & Civil Defence Medals for Meritorious Service to Showell Markhap, Sub-Inspector and Rajesh G. Momin, Havildar Instructor were also announced on the occasion.

West Khasi Hills
West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, T Lyngwa, hoisted the tricolor and took the Rashtriya Salute of two police contingents of District Executive Force and 4th MLP Bn at St Peter’s Higher Secondary School playground Pyndengrei Nongstoin.
The occasion saw distribution of eatables to patients of Nongstoin Civil Hospital and inmates of St. Peter’s Green Pasture Orphanage, Pyndengrei, S Wollington Children’s Home, Nongspyndeng & Shelter Homes for Boys & Girls and Nondein New Nongstoin.
Nongpoh
Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the two parade contingents represented by the 6th MLP Battalion, Umran, at a function held at Circuit House, Nongpoh.
West Jaintia Hills
West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Garod LSN Dykes unfurled the national flag at Jrisalein Playground, Chutwakhu.
Almost all localities in Jowai Town hoisted the flag with minimal participants with strict adherence to the SOPs.

West Garo Hills
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh hoisted the national flag at PA Sangma Stadium, Dakopgre, and took the Rashtriya Salute of Parade Contingents comprising Tura DEF and 2nd MLP Battalion, Goeragre.
During the function, the chief guest presented Certificates of Appreciation to the frontline workers comprising the team of medical officers, staff nurses, technicians, parmacists, attendants at Corona Care Centre, Walbakgre for their dedication and commitment in supporting patient care.
The chief guest also presented the Certificates of Appreciation and cash prizes for the field functionaries of Beldalpara-II Anganwadi Centre under Tura Urban ICDS Project and Rongram Bazaar-I Anganwadi Centre under Rongram ICDS Project for their effort and contribution to improve the health and nutritional status of women and children and adolescent girls in the district under Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan.
The chief guest also felicitated the members of the Zonal Covid Management Team under Tura Municipal Board who played an important role in mobilising and imparting awareness in localities, counselling returnees in community quarantine centres, etc..Certificates of Appreciation were also given to ISBT Team, Tura and to sanitisation workers and biomedical waste collectors of Tura Municipal Board for their selfless service and dedication during pandemic. On the occasion, the chief guest also presented Certificates of Appreciation and mementos to all police units of West Garo Hills district including Fire and Emergency Services, MPRO, ministerial staff of SP Office, Tura in recognition of their relentless effort, hard work, dedication and exemplary performance as frontline COVID-19 warriors. The launching of the District level Nasha Mukt campaign was also announced during the programme.
East Garo Hills
East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingent represented by the Meghalaya Police at Rongrenggre Govt. Higher Secondary School playground.
The highlights of the celebration included felicitation of COVID-19 frontline workers like medical staff, police personnel, volunteers from Bharat Scouts and Guides, Williamnagar Municipal Board staff, IDSP team, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, etc.
South Garo Hills
South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner HB Marak unfurled the national flag and took Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingent represented by district police at District Sports Playground, Baghmara.
The COVID-19 warriors comprising doctors, police and the district officers of various line departments and staff were felicitated in recognition of their noble services in tackling the COVID-19 situation in the district. The Field Level Leadership Incentive Award under Poshan Abhiyan was also awarded to five members of Gitingre Anganwadi Centre under Baghmara ICDS Project for their outstanding performance in every field.
North Garo Hills
North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu unfurled the national flag at Mini Stadium Resubelpara. Highlights of the celebration were felicitation of COVID warriors, awards and certificates for best performing Anganwadi, ANM and ASHA workers.
South West Khasi Hills
South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo unfurled the national flag at the office premises. The day was celebrated by following strict health protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks, thermal screening etc.
During the programme, the chief guest released a video titled Pyrkhat Thymmai, which depicts behavioral change and how to eradicate stigmatisation.
In recognition of their hard work and dedication in the fight against COVID-19, the district administration felicitated the health workers (including ASHAs and Anganwadi workers) of the CHC, PHCs (Mawthawpdah, Rangthong & Wahkaji). Furthermore, mementos were also distributed to stakeholders of the KHADC & PWD (IB) and Nativity Convent as a token of appreciation for provision of institutional quarantine centres. Mementos and certificates were also given to frontline workers of the corona care centre and District Mental Health Programme Counselors for their untiring services. Besides these, mementos and certificates were also distributed to Umjarain Check point team, SBM team, COVID-19 warriors (villages and Myntris including volunteers) for their continuous support and co-operation in fighting against the pandemic. Food packages were also distributed to inmates of Hope Orphanage, Mawkyrwat.
South West Garo Hills
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ashish M Sangma unfurled the national flag at Ampati Students’ Field, Ampati.
During the function, the chief guest gave away the COVID warrior certificates of appreciation to the frontline workers in the district, including the district medical team, district police, executive magistrates, transport department, PHE & Swachh Bharat Mission team, disaster management team, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers, St. Claret Mission and A’”chik Baptist Krima No.VI Pastoral Forum Representation, among many others.
Poshan Abhiyaan Award was also presented to the block level functionaries, namely the Anganwadi workers, Anganwadi helpers, ASHA, ANM and lady supervisor of Dorgapara Anganwadi Centre in recognition of efforts and contribution towards raising awareness on malnutrition.
East Jaintia Hills
Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills F M Dopth unfurled the national flag at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School playground.
During the function, the deputy commissioner handed over the District Bravery Award 2020 to Lini Dkhar for her courageous act. Awards of Appreciation were also given to Risborn Tongper, JE, Water Resource Department and Bipin Nitan Kumar. The Best Anganwadi Worker award under ICDS Khliehriat was given to Letme Dkhar and the Best ASHA Worker award to Beauty Chyrmang.
A message of appreciation was also read out, honouring the hardwork, dedication and sacrifice of all the frontline workers, staff and officers of the Health department and the officers and staff of other departments in the district in the fight against COVID-19. Mementos were also distributed to all the frontliners as a token of appreciation.
