GUWAHATI: A relentless drive by the Assam Police against illegal weapons has led to a series of successful operations in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) in western Assam over the past few weeks, the latest being the recovery of a cache of arms, ammunitions and walkie talkie (WT) sets from Nepalpara Rubber Bagan in Udalguri district during an early morning search on Tuesday.

Exactly a week back (on August 18), Chirang police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a special operation launched at Khagrabari village under Runikhata police station of Chirang district in BTAD.

Security forces in the run-up to Independence Day earlier this month, police had recovered huge caches of arms and ammunition from different places in BTAD, including Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang districts.

“The quest continues. In Kokrajhar, jungles yielded another hidden consignment,” additional director general of police (law and order), G.P Singh had tweeted then.

On Tuesday also, Singh praised the police team in BTAD for the series of successful operations to thwart militant activities in BTAD.
