Lightning kills 10 in Uganda
Kampala: Ten children have been killed in a lightning strike in a remote Ugandan town near the Congo border, Ugandan police said on Friday.
The children, whose ages ranged from 9 to 16, were sheltering from the rain in a grass-thatched house when the lightning struck Thursday evening. They had been playing soccer in a nearby field, said Josephine Angucia, police spokeswoman in Uganda’s West Nile region. Four other children were injured, she said. (AP)
Kim visits typhoon-hit area
Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited a typhoon-hit area in the country’s Hwanghae province and called for all-out efforts to minimize damage to fields and a reduction in harvests, state-media reported on Friday.
The state-media reports however, did not reveal the exact day of his visit, but it appeared to have come hours after typhoon Bavi passed along the North’s western coastline on Thursday. (IANS)
US B-52 bombers flies over Europe
Berlin: American B-52 Stratofortress bombers were flying over all 30 NATO countries on Friday in an exercise the U.S. military said was meant to demonstrate the alliance’s solidarity, amid growing signs of cracks.
Four of the long-range jet bombers based in Britain were flying over European members of NATO, integrating along the way with several partner nations’ fighters and refueling aircraft. (AP)
