SHILLONG: Rejecting theft allegations levelled against the presidents of East Jaintia National Council (EJNC) and Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM), the EJNC has said that they duo had handed over the areca nuts to Ladrymbai Police Outpost.
In a statement on Sunday, the EJNC also alleged that the areca nuts were being smuggled from Bangladesh to Malidor, Assam.
Claiming that the allegations against the duo are an act to defame them, the EJNC has also called for a police probe into the matter.
It may be mentioned that the EJNC and HANM presidents have been reportedly on the run ever since a case of robbery was registered against them at Ladrymbai Police Outpost.
The case was registered by the police after one George Ros Mingson Manner of Tarangblang village under Amlarem Sub-Division filed a complaint.
