Over 70 pc of state’s COVID cases in EKH

SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills continues to remain the hub of COVID-19 infection in the state accounting for over 70 per cent of the total active cases in the state, 71.6% to be precise.
Continuing with the trend, the district reported 31 of the 70 new cases on Sunday. East Garo Hills (9), West Garo Hills (9), Ri Bhoi (6), East Jaintia Hills (4) and South Garo Hills (1) accounted for the remaining 29 cases on the day.
Of the 31 new cases in east Khasi Hills, 26 are high risk contacts, four are armed forces personnel and one is a returnee (NEIGRIHMS). Nine people were found positive through random sampling at Rongjeng Market in East Garo Hills while nine BSF personnel tested positive in West Garo Hills. Two returnees, two high risk contacts, one ILI case and one armed forces personnel tested positive in Ri Bhoi. Two returnees and two high risk contacts tested positive in East Jaintia Hills while one case was reported in South Garo Hills.
The active COVID tally in the state stands at 1284.
14 people recovered from COVID-19 on Sunday
including eight in West Garo Hills (all BSF), two each in East Jaintia Hills (one returnee and one high risk contact) and Ri Bhoi (both from CMJ Breweries cluster) and one each in East Khasi Hills (from Rilbong cluster) and South West Garo Hills (returnee).
The number of recoveries has gone up to 1049 while ten people have succumbed to COVID so far.
East Khasi Hills now has 920 active cases (armed forces/para military- 272 and others- 648), West Garo Hills- 137 (armed forces/para military- 79, others- 58), East Garo Hills- 80, Ri Bhoi- 56 (armed forces/para military-6, others- 50), West Khasi Hills- 44, East Jaintia Hills-17, South Garo Hills-14, North Garo Hills- 12, South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills- two each.
Meghalaya’s recovery rate of 44.77% (1049 out of 2343) remains way below the national average of 76.61%. However, the mortality rate in the state (0.42%) is significantly better than the all-India figure of 1.79%.
