TURA: The selection of general category candidates for pursuing BSc Agriculture under the ST government quota has irked the Meghalaya Hajong Welfare Association (MHWA), which strongly condemned the illegal selection while also demanding an immediate inquiry into the matter.

Earlier, the Hajong Students’ Union (HSU) from Garo Hills had also raised objection to the illegal selection and accused the Meghalaya Government of trying to manipulate the Meghalaya Job Reservation Policy.

In its letter to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the MHWA pointed out that while the allotment was given under Other Tribes (OT) category, the candidates neither belonged to OT nor to ST category.

“The selection of the candidates is illegal and they must not be allowed to take admission in the college. An inquiry must be conducted into their controversial nomination and a candidate from the deserving category must be nominated in their places,” the MHWA demanded.
