MAWKYRWAT: A day after South West Khasi Hills was smitten by horror, the search and rescue team, who were engaged in searching the five missing persons, succeeded in retrieving the body of three on Wednesday.
It was on Tuesday that as many as six people initially went missing whilst two managed swim to safety after Tihiang River in Warsan Lyngdoh area, South West Khasi Hills, swept away one vehicle that was trying to cross over to the other side of the river. However, the body of one of the six missing persons was later recovered during search and rescue operations.
Official sources said that notwithstanding the wet weather, the Fire & Emergency Service and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Team of home guards along with locals continued in their endeavour, finally fishing out the three bodies.
The bodies that were retrieved on Wednesday were identified as Balamanbha L Mawlot (16), Ibashisha Lyngdoh (24) and her child Daman Lyngdoh (1 year and 6 months).
Two more persons, viz. Lapynshai L Mawlot (13) and Ferdinand Myrthong (45), who was the driver, are still missing.
Sources said that the rescue teams are still stationed at the site and the search for the other two will continue.
