TURA: The A’chik Youth Council (AYC) has urged the State Government to look into the matter of pending salaries of deficit teachers from South West Garo Hills.

In a statement issued here, the council informed that teachers from the district were yet to receive their three months’ salaries due to lack of financial power with newly appointed DSEO although the same was released by the DSEL in Shillong a while back. It urged the government to empower the concerned official to release the pending salaries.

The council also recalled the government’s promise to give highest priority to education in the state and questioned why the salaries of the teachers were being delayed.

“Is this top priority? Why this delay, if the amount has already been released?” it asked and demanded that necessary steps are taken immediately.

Earlier, the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (GHSTEA) had also raised the same issue with the Education Minister.
