TURA: The West Garo Hills district administration has extended by one more day the containment zone for New Bhaitbari market area after 15 fresh cases were reported on Tuesday.
The town of New Bhaitbari, located between Rajabala and Phulbari, was declared a containment zone after COVID-19 cases were detected during random testing in the market area.
The containment tag was scheduled to be lifted on Tuesday until 15 new cases were detected during contact tracing, WGH Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, said.
Health worker dies
Meanwhile, a health worker, who passed away while he was undergoing treatment in Guwahati, reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
The deceased, a health worker under Jeldupara Primary Health Centre in West Garo Hills, suffered a life-threatening stroke and was taken to Guwahati for advanced medical care. However, he passed away on Monday.
There are possibilities that the deceased might have contracted the virus in Guwahati as the DC has clarified that strict health protocols were in place including testing, and no health worker, who had recently attended a training programme on Japanese Encephalitis, was found infected with virus.
The deceased was reportedly one of the participants during the training.
