Call for fresh probe into Bholarbhita gang-rape case

SHILLONG: A section of the residents of Bholarbhita has written to Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui appealing for de novo investigation into the alleged gang-rape incident of Bholarbhita by CBI or a high-level independent committee.
The residents have also extended their support to the All Meghalaya Minorities Students’ Union, which demanded that justice should prevail.
The residents have demanded for a CBI inquiry and also threatened to move the High Court seeking CBI investigation into the matter.
It may be mentioned that the prime accused, Habibul Islam, and the alleged victim were in a relationship, which was confirmed through WhatsApp chat, Instagram chat, messages etc. Islam, via his Facebook account, confessed and said that Ishraful Hoque and Mukabbir Hossain had no connection with the incident at all.
Ishraful Hoque is a well known social activist of plain-belt region of the Garo Hills.
