SHILLONG: A public meeting to oppose the construction of the proposed Barik Mall has been scheduled for Saturday at the Shillong Centenary monument, near State Central Library by a climate strike movement, Fridays for Future, Meghalaya.
As part of the observation of Climate & Environment Justice Day, the organisation will convene the public meeting, which they have decided to call ‘Say no to Barik Mall’.
It may be recalled that Fridays for Future had organised a protest outside the PWD premises at Barik, to express their dissatisfaction over the proposed idea of constructing a shopping mall in the area, between October 12 and 17.
The state government, however, stands undecided with regard to the construction of a shopping mall at Barik PWD complex in view of the public outcry.
