All steps taken to prevent Ichamati issue from breeding more trouble: Conrad

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today informed the state Assembly that the government was taking all measures to ensure that there was no deterioration of the law and order situation because of ‘Ichamati issue’ that has created communal tension in certain parts of the state.

Replying to a Zero Hour notice moved by Mawlai MLA, P T Sawkmie, Chief Minister said that the State Government had already appealed to all the groups and citizen to refrain from making provocative statements over the issue.

He also said he had already hold discussions with different political leaders and authorities to ensure that Meghalaya Households are provided security

Stating that many people had approach different central agencies alleging harassment in Ichamati, Sangma informed that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had asked State Police to conduct inquiry and they found that there was no harassment of people
