Call for checkpoint at WKH village
NONGSTOIN, Nov 11: The KSU, West Khasi Hills District Unit, along with KSU Lyngngam Hynnengbrei Area Unit, have called for an infiltration checkpoint to be set up at Nongshram, which falls under West Khasi Hills bordering East Garo Hills. The members of the KSU raised this demand during a meeting with Deputy Commissioner, T Lyngwa, on Wednesday. Talking to media persons here, the KSU said that immigrants are entering freely in Shallang through Nongshram village without valid documents. Stating that the district has only one infiltration checkpoint in Athiabari bordering Assam, the KSU said, The union has also exhorted the DC to bolster the existing infiltration checkgate at Athiabari village.

Man kills self in WKH
NONGSTOIN, Nov 11: One Arjun K Sohphoh died after hanging himself at his wife’s residence in Marshan Nongrim under West Khasi Hills. According to an complaint filed by the Headman of Sohparu village, on Wednesday at 5 am, Arjun’s wife found her husband hanging at her residence, the police said. The body was sent to Nongstoin Civil Hospital for autopsy and inquiry into the matter is under way.

Training for teachers
SHILLONG, Nov 11: A 100-hour-long co-teacher training was organised at three different yog centres in Meghalaya by the Bharat Swabhiman Trust in association with Patanjali Yog Samiti & Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti and supported by Yuva Bharat, Meghalaya, between October 3 and 10. In East Khasi Hills, the training was held at DGC crossroads in Police Bazar & Lamavilla Community Hall, while the event was held at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills. As many as 65 participants took part in the month-long training programme conveyed by Patanjali Yog Peeth, Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

Border haats in NGH to reopen
TURA, Nov 11: Border haats and markets located in the interstate border of North Garo Hills have been allowed to reopen – during weekly market days too – on condition that the bazaar committees ensure that shops are rearranged in a scattered manner to avoid crowd congestion. The order, which was issued by the district administration, also directed the shopkeepers and customers to strictly adhere to COVID-19 SOPs.

Loaded vehicles barred from plying
NONGSTOIN, Nov 11: West Khasi Hills District Magistrate has prohibited loaded trucks from plying on Riangsih-Nongjri Road. According to a statement, the road from Riangsih to Nongjri falling under Mawshynrut Block was badly damaged in the recent flash floods.
