Nongpoh, Nov 16: The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) central body has expressed its opposition against the state government and the Meghalaya Minerals and Development Corporation (MMDC) Ltd for refusing to handover a plot of land at Mawsmai in Ri Bhoi district to the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department for construction of the Cattle Feed Milk Plant amounting to Rs. 64 crores.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, vice-president of the RBYF central body, Lankupar Sawkmie said that the federation is shocked to learn that the MMDC has leased out an area measuring around 7 acres at Mawsmai to a non-tribal businessman, Rohit Jain but refused to hand over the same plot of land to the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department.
He also informed that the federation demanded from the state government and the MMDC to immediately cancel the lease agreement with Rohit Jain. They should instead hand it over the land to the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department for the project which will benefit the people of the state and the entire North East as well, he added.
Sawkmie also said that the federation does not want to see the district lose the project just because of some vested interest.
He also warned that the federation will not hesitate to take stringent steps if the state government and the MMDC do not meet their demands at the earliest.
