SHILLONG, Dec 26: In what can be deemed a Christmas gift, locals in Rongdingre and Sonsangre villages in South Garo Hills were lit up this Christmas with round-the-clock solar power supply.
Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, said that Christmas has been made more meaningful for the villagers of Rongdingre and Sonsangre in South Garo Hills with they receiving solar electricity by Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE). “Spreading joy through renewable energy to the remotest villages in Meghalaya,” Conrad took to Twitter and said.
The GHE, which is Indian organisation working towards providing solar energy in remote places, has provided these two villages with round-the-clock solar power supply by setting up solar microgrids.
The local community has been trained to operate the micro-grid infrastructure to produce solar energy.
