RESUBELPARA, Jan 30: With an aim to disseminate awareness on various livelihood generation schemes among educated youths, a programme on Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) was held in Adokgre village, East Garo Hills.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, ADC & VC, District Level Task Force Committee (DLTFC), PMEGP, ZJ Sangma, suggested the youths to venture into entrepreneurship by availing the various benefits being provided under PMEGP.
Sangma placed forth this suggestion saying that government jobs are scarce.
PMEGP is a credit-linked subsidy programme introduced by the government of India in 2008. PMEGP is a merger of two schemes, viz. Prime Minister’s Rojgar Yojna and Rural Employment Generation Programme.
The PMEGP aims to generate employment opportunities through enterprises in rural and urban areas.
General Manager of District Commerce & Industries Centres (DCIC), IZ Wreang, apprised the gathering of the department’s effort in upscaling the implementation of the schemes in areas with low applicants.
EAC, BDO, Kapil Koch, who was one of the resource persons, educated the gathering about the schemes available under Community and Rural Development Department (C&RD) department.
Representatives from MSME from skill development also spoke of the schemes provided by their respective departments.
