SHILLONG, Feb 6: The Opposition Congress has criticised the Meghalaya Government’s handling of the issue of MTET question paper leak.
Congress Spokesperson, Zenith Sangma, said that although the question paper for Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) was leaked in some parts of the state, the state government had withheld the results of the exam only in Dadenggre Sub-Division of West Garo Hills.
“They had withheld the result of MTET in Dadenggre and in other parts they have gone ahead and appointed the teachers,” Zenith said.
Expressing discontent with the state government for going ahead with the appointment in other parts of the state except Dadenggre notwithstanding the leak, Zenith said, “In today’s world, technology is available. Can’t the information be passed onto some other parts of the state?”
“If it (questions) was divulged in Dadenggre Sub-Division, couldn’t the same be passed onto the other parts of the state?,” he questioned.
Stating that the entire process should have been revisited and a fresh examination should have been conducted, the Congress spokesperson said, ‘‘Whatever the state government has done is completely wrong”.
Earlier, NPP MLA from Phulbari, SG Esmatur Mominin, had urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to bestow grace marks upon the candidates from Dadenggre who have appeared for the MTET.
In a letter to the chief minister, Mominin said had that the previous MTET in Dadenggre was held on January 31, 2019, which was notified in October, 2018, giving more than three months’ time to the candidates for preparation. However this time, MTET under Dadenggre was notified on November 17 and held on December 15, handing the candidates less than a month to prepare. “It is a kind of discrimination against the candidates of Dadenggre sub-division,” Mominin had asserted.
