SHILLONG, March 3: Mawmluh Cherra Cement Employees Union, on Wednesday, demanded of the Meghalaya government to declare its stand on fate of the MCCL employees, who have remained without their salaries since 2018, besides the present status of the new dry process plant which was started in 2013.
Speaking to reporters here, president of the union, Shanlang Diengdoh, urged upon the people’s representatives to take a final decision on the cement plant and the fate of the employees who are facing various hardships due to the non-payment of salaries.
He asserted that the main reason for the cement plant to close down was the ban on coal mining by the NGT as it totally depended on coal for production of cement.
“We had been appealing to the state government since 2018 to adopt a new policy to run the cement plan and to pay the salaries on time. We have submitted a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, local MLA of Sohra and Shella and all the MLAs to take a final call on MCCL and payment of the salaries of its employees,” Diengdoh added.
