TURA, March 4: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Thursday, laid the foundation stone for construction of the Rs 3-crore mini stadium at Bakennang Nalsa in Bajengdoba.
Speaking at the event, Sangma said that the Bajengdoba Mini Stadium will be renamed as Hamilton Stadium in memory of the legendary musician from Garo Hills, Hamilton Momin.
“The development of an outdoor football stadium in the area will allow residents to take part in sports activities,” Sangma said.
Funded through the State Plan Scheme, the Bakennang Nalsa Mini Stadium will be upgraded with an All India Football Federation or Federation Internationale de Football Association-certified football turf, modern changing-room facilities, parking areas and commercial spaces by December 2022.
The chief minister said, “The government had earmarked Rs 100 crore for the year 2020-21, out of which, Rs 3 crore was sanctioned for Bajengdoba.”
On infrastructure boost, Sangma said the government had increased the budget for road construction across Meghalaya to Rs 1,800 crore from Rs 700 crore in 2013-18.
