SHILLONG, March 8: The North-Eastern Hill University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) has alleged disregard of the executive council (EC) resolutions and has cited instances of failure to act promptly on them.
According to a statement on Monday, the NEHUNSA said that despite the EC taking a resolution to conduct a preliminary inquiry, the enquiry committee was not constituted on time and when it was formed, there were laxities.
“In one particular case dated 27th of November 2020, the Executive Council had taken a resolution to conduct a preliminary inquiry and the chairman of the Executive Council was to constitute an enquiry committee. It is learnt from reliable sources that after the constitution of the preliminary inquiry committee, there was a laxity to take prompt action which has led to the delay in solving serious cases involving alleged financial irregularities in the university. NEHUNSA questions the authority of NEHU as to why there is an utter disregard and dishonour to the EC resolutions from time to time. Such delays may give the opportunity and ample time for the alleged official(s) to further manipulate the irregularities, if any,” the statement said.
The NEHUNSA has, in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor SK Srivastava, has also demanded the immediate ouster of the current Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), accusing the CVO of acting in an authoritative manner and in haste.
“The University needs an active and knowledgeable CVO and, at the same time, the NEHUNSA objects the appointment of the current CVO as he is holding an office which is involved in policy-making decisions in the university and he is also a member of the building committee,” it said.
