MAWKYRWAT, March 17: Hundreds of people from Borsohra area under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division on Wednesday partook in a rally to condemn the murder of a 12-year-old girl from the area recently.
The rally, which was organised by the All Khasi Hills A.chik Federation (AKHAF) in collaboration with the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), United A.chik Youth Federation (UAYF) and the Border Area Headmen Association (BAHA), started from Borsohra market and ended at Borsohra Police Outpost.
After the conclusion of the rally, the protesters were seen displaying placards outside the police outpost.
General secretary of AKHAF, John Sangma, said that organisations have demanded speedy investigation and immediate arrest of the culprits.
The minor, who had gone to buy grocery item, did not return home on the evening of March 6. Subsequently, the family members of the minor intimated the police and a search operation was conducted with the help from the locals.
Albeit the search operation yielded no result, the body of the girl was recovered the next day from a place near Borsohra Market.
Police have, meanwhile, informed that the probe is under way and they are awaiting the post-mortem report while no arrest has been made so far.
