SHILLONG, March 20: The president of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Lambok Marngar, on Saturday accentuated the need for the Meghalaya government to give just attention to schools in the rural and urban areas for overall growth of students.
The KSU chief was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new central executive committee members of the Union at the U Soso Tham auditorium.
Marngar also dwelt at length about the social evils which plague the growth of indigenous people.
He recalled having interacted with jobseekers, who informed him about their hurdles to secure a government job without having to bribe.
“There has to be transparency in appointment procedure of government jobs,” he said.
Marngar also called on the members to work towards the welfare of the Hynniewtrep community.
Meanwhile, KSU general secretary Donald Thabah said the Union would continue to oppose the railways until a comprehensive mechanism to check influx is put in place.
He added that the Union will continue to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and demand for Inner Line Permit.
During the programme, one of its members, Lurshai Hynniewta, who was killed in a clash at Ichamati in February last year, was also remembered.
