SHILLONG, March 20: Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla has stressed on the need to unify the tribal and the non-tribal populace for the interest of the state as a whole.
Elaborating the idea, Kyrmen recently said that albeit many preach unity, select elements don’t allow them to practise.
Asserting that unity is the one of the most important aspects for overall interest of the state and the country as a whole, the minister said that there should be some sort of policy which will ensure that people are not discriminated against on the basis of gender or community. “I request everyone that it high time for everyone to stop this categorisation, be it on the grounds of tribal or non-tribal, and we need to understand that we need everyone, including outsiders,” he said.
He maintained that even outsiders contribute to the state when they come as tourists and spend their money here.
The minister also announced that his department will raise awareness on the aspect of unity.
