Shillong, March 23: Four matches were played today in Nongpoh and Mendipathar as part of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-14 Inter District Tournament 2021, with wins for Shillong Cricket Association, East Khasi Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
Today’s first match in Nongpoh (Zone 1) saw Shillong Cricket Association defeat East Jaintia Hills by 68 runs. Batting first, SCA made 164/3 in their 20 overs (Abhineet Dey 51; Dipson Lama 1/28), which was a target a little too big for EJH, who were restricted to 96/8 (Yoomitre Malang 19; Ashish Kr Lohar 2/12). Dey was named player-of-the-match with his 51 from 32 deliveries.
In the second match, a superb effort by player-of-the-match Jonathan Mawa with bat and ball saw East Khasi Hills defeat Ri-Bhoi by 34 runs. EKH scored 148/8 in 20 overs (Jonathan Mawa 47; Anmol Kr Shah 4/40). Ri-Bhoi tried their level best to chase down the target but lost too many wickets and were all out for 114 (Pynshai Timung 18; Jonathan Mawa 4/32) off the penultimate delivery.
Meanwhile, in Mendipathar (Zone 2), North Garo Hills chased down the required runs set by West Khasi Hills in the morning match. WKH posted 107 all out in 17.2 overs batting first (Damewanpynkhraw Marbaniang 22; Rakseng Marak 3/21) and, in reply, NGH scored 110/3 in 13.1 overs (Rakseng Marak 51; Damewanpynkhraw Marbaniang 3/17) to comfortably win by seven wickets. Marak was adjudged player-of-the-match.
The second game saw South Garo Hills storm to a 95-run victory over East Garo Hills. Batting first, SGH went at more than seven an over for a total of 142/6 (Griksal G Marak 41; Aristho R Marak 2/14). EGH, on the other hand, could not get their innings going and were skittled for 47 (Jeristho Marak 19; Ananda Berman 3/13). Berman was named player-of-the-match.
