SHILLONG, March 31: As an official response to street agitation by villagers in Jaintia Hills over lack of basic civic amenities, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, in-charge of PWD (Roads), on Wednesday, assured that the state government was alive to the issues.
To buttress his claims, he said that water connectivity would reach the interiors under the Jal Jeevan Mission, adding that the government has prioritised two road projects — the Rs 148-crore Sonapur-Borghat road and Rs 90-crore Mawshynrut road linking to Dudhnoi in Assam.
He said, “I am very sure that this project will also cover that, as we are not going to and cannot leave aside any single village, be it in the interiors or central places. We will make sure that everybody gets water connection”.
Talking about roads, Tynsong said that there was a long dream of that entire border area starting from Borghat to Sonapur to see better condition of the road, which is pathetic at the moment. “Right from 2020, we have already prioritised this project under the scheme funded by DoNER Ministry and already sent the proposal”.
He said that there were so many queries on documentation and the justification has been sent from state PWD.
“Now, the government has finalised everything and sent it to the Ministry of DoNER, besides we have already made this particular road top-most priority,” he said, adding that after the justification submitted to the Ministry, the state government will get the sanction for the Borghat to Sonapur stretch to grow.
He also informed that the Mawshynrut road has been left unattended since the attainment of statehood but luckily the state government has received a sanction for it and tender is being floated.
