Two dead, scores hurt in GH road mishap

TURA, March 31: Two persons died on the spot and eight others sustained injuries after a loaded truck coming from Gabil market towards Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills lost control and capsized near Rari village on NH-51 around 3 pm on Wednesday.
Several passengers were travelling on the ill-fated truck (AS18 A 4342) that was loaded with sacks of arecanut when the accident occurred.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on reaching Ronggopgre near Rari village and rammed into a cyclist before hitting a roadside mound and turning turtle. The cyclist, Jakhi S Sangma, and the owner of the truck, Jomiruddin Sk of Pakriguri, Krishnai town in Assam, who was inside the vehicle were killed on the spot.
Eight others, who sustained injuries, were shifted to local hospitals at Rari and Bajengdoba. Two of them were grievously hurt.
The truck driver fled from the scene after the accident.
