SHILLONG, April 1: Three days after Sylloklang Majaw, who claimed to be the Sordar of Kongthong village, expressed opposition to adoption of the village by Rajya Sabha member Rakesh Sinha, the villagers have clarified that there is an attempt to mislead the people on the matter.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, Sordar of Raid Kongthong, Kanol Majaw, asserted that Sylloklang had tried to mislead the people on the developmental schemes and projects to be sanctioned by Sinha from his MP scheme.
“We welcome the developmental schemes which have been initiated by the BJP MP,” the Sordar said.
He informed that the village authority welcomes all developmental projects initiated by any groups or individuals.
“We have never rejected any projects which have been proposed for the overall development of the village,” Majaw stated.
He further clarified that the village authorities appreciate the secretary of the Indigenous Agro-Tourism Cooperative Society for taking the initiative to introduce various developmental schemes for the benefit of the people of Kongthong.
It is worth mentioning here that Rakesh Sinha has sanctioned funds for construction of public toilet in the village.
Earlier, Sylloklang had questioned the adoption of the village by the MP while stating that it was done without taking the village authority into confidence.
“We strongly oppose the implementation of the MP scheme without the approval of the village authority. The recent visit of Rakesh Sinha to Kongthong village during the Republic Day celebration this year is an insult to the village authority and many of the residents are not happy with it,” Majaw had said in a statement.
