Restrictions, relaxations for weekend lockdown

WILLIAMNAGAR/ MAWKYRWAT/ JOWAI: The district magistrates of East Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and West Jaintia Hills have issued restrictions and relaxations during the weekend lockdown in the districts.
East Garo Hills
In a statement, East Garo Hills District Magistrate, Swapnil Tembe, informed that during weekend lockdown, which will be enforced from 10 pm of May 7 till 5 am of May 10, no vehicular movement will be permitted except those involved in rendering essential services. “Interstate movement of vehicles and people will be restricted, all markets in the district will remain closed except the medicine shops, all banks, postal services and private offices also will remain closed and restaurants, liquor shops, cafes, etc. also will not be allowed to open,” the statement said.
On the other hand, movement of health workers, essential services like FCI, water supply, electricity, security, municipal services, movement essential goods, print and electronic media, etc, have been exempted from the purview of the restrictions.
Farming activities in rural areas, officers and staff of corona care centres, officials on COVID-19 duty, pharmacies, clinics, nursing homes, hospitals, medical laboratories, petrol pumps, etc., have also been exempted.
South West Khasi Hills
Meanwhile, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, C Kharkongor, has informed that interstate and interdistrict movement of people will  be restricted during weekend lockdown. Movement of vehicles has also been restricted save the ones indulged in essential services including health services.
The order also said that all markets, including weekly haats, will remain shut and only shops selling essential commodities will be allowed to function. Movement of essential goods and farm produce will be allowed subject to permission, while all offices will remain shut except banks and postal services.
“Weddings already permitted may be held but restricted to family members and not exceeding 20 persons,” the DC said, adding that funeral gathering has been restricted to 20 persons with prior permission from the DC.
West Jaintia Hills
The West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate, on the other hand, has restricted interstate movement of persons during weekend lockdown. However, transit vehicles from Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram have been exempted from the ambit of the order.
The activities that are exempted during weekend lockdown in the district include heath services, essential services, viz. electricity, water supply, security, municipal services, fire & emergency services, national informatic centre and telecom communication services, movement of essential goods, print and electronic media, farming and MGNREGA activities in rural areas, officials on COVID-19 duty, LPG distributors and petrol pumps.
