SHILLONG, May 15: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), on Saturday, urged Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to set up a border outpost (BOP) at Kyrshai village in West Khasi Hills, which is reportedly under tension at most times due to the law and order problems since the village falls under disputed area.
Talking to reporters after the meeting with the chief minister, HSPDP president KP Pangniang said that they have also asked him to regularise the BOP at Langpih.
“We apprised the chief minister of the urgent need to set up the BOP at Kyrshai village since it is the main entry point between Assam and Meghalaya,” Pangniang stated.
He informed that the state government has currently set up a temporary border wing at Kyrshai village while maintaining that the Assam government has already set up a permanent BOP at Ukiam, which is located across the Kyrshai river.
“It is the need of the hour for Meghalaya to regularise the border wing or to set up a new full-fledged BOP at Kyrshai in order to maintain peace and ensure security of the people of the area and to keep vigil on the law and order situation arising every now and then,” he said.
The HSPDP also indicated that there was no reason to delay the set up process as the Kyrshai Dorbar has already handed over a plot of land for free to the police department in order to set up the BOP.
Dissatisfied with the total number of personnel stationed at the border wing at present, the HSPDP also requested the government to deploy more manpower at the outpost.
