NONGPOH/SHILLONG, May 27: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA), through the Ri Bhoi District Cricket Association, on Thursday donated as many as 45 sets of blanket, bed sheets, pillows and mattresses to the Dorbar Shnong of Nongpoh Proper and Mawroh village as contribution in the fight against COVID-19.
It may be noted that Nongpoh Proper has been one of the worst-affected villages in Ri Bhoi as cases of COVID-19 infections continue to surge every passing day.
With the assistance provided by the MCA, the two villages — Mawroh and Nongpoh Proper — have set up their own community isolation centres.
On the other hand, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, who had inaugurated the community isolation centre at Nongpoh Proper on Thursday, also donated other materials and items needed at the new facility.
Ambulances donated
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), apart from ensuring world-class aviation services in India, is actively contributing towards uplifting and developing society through its Community Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The AAI, who has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, will provide two ambulances to the aspirational district at a cost of Rs 29 lakh under the CSR programme to strengthen the health services in view of the pandemic.
The MoA was signed by DC RM Kurbah and Manish Kumar Agrawal, Airport Director, Barapani (Shillong) Airport.
It may also be recalled that last year, Rs 10 lakh as assistance was provided to Ri Bhoi by AAI for procurement of COVID test equipment.
