SHILLONG, June 18: Another technical snag has hit the bailey bridge at Dwar Ksuid in Ri Bhoi for the second time after dwindling under the pressure of heavy vehicles.
This has led to movement of vehicles on the bridge being prohibited yet again.
On the sidelines of this development, Shillong MP Vincent Pala has moved the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways seeking intervention in the matter.
Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, RM Kurbah, has informed that a technical defect has been on the bridge, the planks on which need replacement.
The ban on plying of vehicles on the bailey bridge will be in effect till June 23, she said.
In light of this development, Lok Sabha member and Congress leader, Vincent H Pala, has on Friday written to Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, urging him to take up the issue of the dilapidated condition of the bridge on the Shillong Bypass.
The bridge was inaugurated on March 25 this year and designed to support only vehicle with a load below 40 metric tonne.
