SHILLONG, June 23: At the time when Meghalaya continues to reel under the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the North Eastern Council Secretariat Employees’ Welfare Association (NECSEWA) has rendered financial aid to the Dorbar Shnong Nongrim Hills to set up a COVID Care Centre at the NEC Secretariat. According to a statement, a cheque of Rs three lakh was handed over to the headman of Nongrim Hills on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, NEC secretary, K Moses Chalai, said, “It is heartwarming to know that in such a crisis situation, the community has stepped forward to counter the challenge.” On the other hand, the headman acknowledged the gesture of the NEC and informed that a quarantine centre is in the pipeline, which will cater to the economically backward section.
“NEC has always extended support to Dorbar Shnong and as the cases kept surging, we passed a resolution from the Dorbar to start our own Corona Care Centre to especially cater to the weaker section of the society and NEC came forward to help us,” headman said.
