SHILLONG, June 24: Power Minister, James Sangma on Thursday said that in line with the Centre’s Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), the state’s Power department has formed the Meghalaya Energy Efficiency Ltd (MEEL) to streamline and give focus to overall efficiency in the power sector.
“If you look at the Government of India, it has come up with EESL which has been formed with a focus towards energy efficiency in the country; in line with that, we have also gone ahead and done that in Meghalaya,” James said.
He further went on to inform that the MEEL was formed few months ago with an intention to streamline and give focus to overall efficiency.
“To give that kind of thrust and focus into it, the government went ahead and gave the assent to form MEEL,” the power minister said.
Clarifying on the recent media reports, James said, “Unlike the report, which has been published in some newspaper dailies, the chairman of the MEEL is ex officio the Minister in charge and the managing director is ex officio the secretary Power department.”
