Yoga teacher represents Meghlaya in training camp
SHILLONG, July 5: Yog teacher from Meghalaya Yog Samiti, Manik Paul on Sunday represented the state during a virtual 100-day Co-Teacher Training Camp 2021, which is under way. A statement in this regard informed that Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman Trust from all the Northeastern states have come forward to organise the training camp, during which varied cultural diversity of the Northeastern states are exhibited and young talents are honoured.

Smit gets new eye check-up centre
SHILLONG, July 5: The Mission for Vision (MFV) in association with Savitri Waney Charitable Foundation, Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC) and Society for Promotion of Eye Care & Sight (SPECS) on Monday launched a new vision centre at Smit as part of a community-based eye care project. According to a statement, a virtual inauguration programme was conducted on the same day which was attended by headman of Smit as the chief guest, staff of Bansara Eye Care Centre and others. “This project, having been conceptualised as an extension of Bansara Eye Care Centre’s ongoing work in East Khasi Hills district, can be considered as the next phase of establishing sustainable quality eye care delivery services to the people. With the launch of the new Vision Centre at Smit, Bansara Eye Care Centre with support from MFV, Savitri Waney Charitable Foundation and the Society for Promotion of Eye Care & Sight (SPECS) is furthering its mission to eliminate avoidable blindness in Meghalaya through cooperation, collaboration and convergence, thus making quality eye care services easily accessible, affordable and available to people in dire need,” the statement said.

KSU shuts down factory at Umiam
NONGPOH, July 5: The Khasi Students’ Union, North Khasi Hills District Unit, on Monday, shut down Meghalaya Ply, one of the factories located at Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Industrial Estates, Umiam, for allegedly sacking a Khasi lady working at the factory. The factory does not possess a trading licence, claimed the union members, who also sent back the non-tribal workers who were allegedly employed without labour licence.The union has warned the factory against reopening the establishment unless the lady is reinstated along with other qualified locals. At the swift arrival of the police and magistrates of Ri Bhoi, who were reportedly in favour of the factory in the case, the Union has expressed shock while also stating that the police and magistrates are missing when the tribal people are ‘harassed’ and ‘tortured’ from time to time, especially in the border areas.
