TURA, July 8: The Garo Graduates’ Union (GGU) has asked Tura MP Agatha Sangma to look into the overhauling of various educational institutes.
Submitting the memorandum to the MP during a meeting on Thursday, the GGU flagged various issues relating to the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura, College of Teachers’ Education, College of Community Science, Tura Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, RVTI Tura, Polytechnic Institute Tura, post offices of Garo Hills, passport office Tura, MSME office, Doordarshan Kendra etc.
In its memorandum, the GGU pointed out that important subjects are yet to be introduced in NEHU Tura. It also bemoaned the limited intake capacity in the university, especially at a time when student population of Garo Hills is growing.
Accentuating the need to establish a full-fledged central university, the Union also asked Sangma to look into the issue of insufficient graduate and postgraduate level colleges in and around Tura.
Concern was also raised on the functioning of the Tura Public School, which has been functioning without a full-fledged principal.
Bewailing the absence of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in West Garo Hills, the Union reminded Sangma of the state government policy of bringing the JNV to all districts.
