TURA, July 11: Power Minister and Dadenggre legislator, James Sangma, has mooted the idea of having permanent relief camps in areas frequently affected by natural calamities and said that such a move will expedite the movement of victims and resources.
James, who paid a visit to his home constituency on Friday, held a review meeting with officials from various departments during which various issues, from floods to COVID pandemic, were discussed.
Speaking on mitigation during times of calamities, James asked the SDO to follow in the footsteps of Bangladesh and set up permanent relief camps given that Phulbari-Dadenggre and Tikrikilla region under the sub-division frequently suffer from natural calamities, particularly floods, during monsoons.
He also directed the authorities to conduct mock exercises regularly in order to make the Incident Response Team familiar with the rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.
