12-yr-old wins second prize in video competition by UN
SHILLONG, June 10: Inspired by the sacred forests in Meghalaya, 12-year-old Shriya Shruti Misra has bagged the second prize for her story ‘Healing Earth’ in Sustainable Stories Video Competition, which was organised by the United Nations University. Her work will be displayed at the physical exhibition in Dresden, Germany. Daughter of IG CRPF, North Eastern Sector, Sonal V Misra, who is deputed in Shillong, Shriya has been inspired by the sustainable lifestyle of tribals and the sacred forests in Meghalaya. “It is a great achievement. The efforts made by the tribals here are inspiring. We, too, can take small steps to heal the earth,” said the 12-year-old. She also said that while traditional methods of safeguarding the environment like sacred forests are still prevalent in Meghalaya, trees are still being felled elsewhere. “By cutting down the trees, they are consuming the share of the future generations,” she added.

Training on digital transformation
SHILLONG, June 10: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis and Centre for Development of North Eastern Region, IIM Shillong, organised a two-day virtual training on Digital Transformation of Small Businesses. The open-to-all training, which concluded on Saturday, was attended by various stakeholders from the North East. According to a statement, Director of IIM Shillong, Prof. D.P Goyal, during the progarmme, emphasised on the importance of digital transformation in the North East, especially for small-time businesses. Asserting that the IIM Shillong will take lead in the digitisation of small businesses in the North East, Goyal urged all concerned to take maximum advantage of such training programmes.

SHILLONG, June 10: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority on Saturday organised the National Lok Adalat for all districts, save West Jaintia Hills, during which 19 pre-litigation cases and 345 pending cases were taken up for settlement. According to a statement, the National Lok Adalat was organised under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and under the patronage of the Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Justice Biswanath Somadder. “In the National Lok Adalat, 319 pre-litigation cases and 345 pending cases were taken up for settlement. Total number of cases taken up were 664 and of which 133 cases and an amount of Rs 40,49,334.3 was settled in the National Lok Adalat,” the statement said.
