TURA, July 13: In what can be called a bizarre incident, a teenage from Siju village of South Garo Hills tried to attempt suicide by climbing onto a high-tension electrical post at her village but was saved due to zero electricity there.
The incident occurred on Monday morning after an argument broke out between the girl and her parents.
“We were told that there was an argument between the father and daughter over some matter after which she climbed on the electrical post. Both villagers and police rushed to the scene and tried to convince her to climb down. The scene went on for almost half an hour before she was safely brought down,” informed South Garo Hills SP R Ravi.
There are two versions on the dearth of power doing the rounds — one involves government officials alerting the electrical station to cut the power to save her from getting electrocuted, the other is on the regular phenomenon of power cuts that plague the region.
The girl was later counselled by elders about the importance of life and overcoming anger and frustration.
