21 succumb to virus

SHILLONG, July 23: The COVID-19 death toll in the state crossed the grim milestone of 1000 as 21 patients succumbed to the viral infection in the last 24 hours. The cumulative toll now stands at 1,009.
12 fatalities were reported from East Khasi Hills, two each from West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills and one each from Ri Bhoi, South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills.
Fresh cases continued to breach the 500-mark in the state with another 558 cases being reported on Friday, taking the active tally to 4,539. The highest number of 213 fresh cases were reported in East Khasi Hills.
A total of 54,356 patients have been cured/discharged in the state with 411 recoveries being recorded.
Pyngrope tests positive
Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
When contacted, he said that he had fever on Monday and had gone for testing the following day and the result came out positive. “I had isolated myself at my house since the day I was feeling unwell. I still have mild fever. But now I am feeling better,” he added.
