TURA, July 29: Local bodies from Dalu in West Garo Hills under the umbrella of the Dalu Civil Sub-Division Joint Movement Committee (DCS-DJMC), on Thursday, resumed the demand for the upgrade of Dalu Block into a civil subdivision and submitted a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The demand for this upgrade has been long-standing given the fact that Dalu happens to be one of the oldest blocks in Garo Hills which came into being on October 1, 1954, as per statistical data available.
In their memorandum to the chief minister, the combined organisations pointed out that people of the area are facing immense hardships as they currently have to visit Tura, the District Headquarters, which is about 51 kilometres away, for various official works and purposes.
The organisations added that having to travel such a long distance for minor personal works such as registration of birth and death certificates, correction of government documents and others were causing financial problems as well as inconveniences to the people of the area.
Pointing out that necessary works often cannot be completed in a day, and sometimes even takes days, weeks and months, leading to unnecessary additional financial burden, the local organisations sought the upgrade of Dalu Block to eliminate such problems.
