SHILLONG, Aug 1: BJP MDC from Tura Bernard Marak has accused the NPP-led Executive Committee (EC) in the GHADC of violating the recommendations of the 15th Finance Committee in terms of allocation of funds under the tied grants.
Talking to reporters on Sunday, Marak alleged that the EC has allocated Rs 1 crore to each of the MDC of the ruling side out of the Rs 18.22 crore which was earmarked under the tied grants.
According to him, the 15th Finance Commission had recommended that the funds should be distributed as per the population.
“I will be raising this issue with the CEM. It will be difficult to get funds in the future from the Centre if the funds under the tied grants are misutilised,” he said.
The BJP MDC from Tura demanded that the funds be equally distributed among all the constituencies depending on the population.
He also advocated that the word “opposition” should be there in the GHADC.
It may be mentioned that the BJP had earlier raised the issue of alleged misutilisation of central funds amounting crores under the Special Assistance Grant (SAG).
The allegations of cover up of the huge sum of money in GHADC and JHADC includes ghost bridges, footpaths, duplication of projects, and under communication and education, an amount of Rs 5 crore was shown as spent with film having only two episodes and radio jingles and the list continues with high prices quoted on repair works of official buildings and guest houses.
Bowing to the relentless pressure, the state government finally decided to go for a state audit in to the alleged bungling with central government funds allocated to the districts councils.
