SHILLONG, Aug 1: Meghalaya’s growth in terms of GST collection of July in contrast to last year is not altogether satisfying as the state’s figures are among the lowest compared to other Northeastern states.
According to the state-wise figures of GST collected in the North East states in July, the state has recorded growth of 1 per cent. Meghalaya this time collected Rs 121 crore in July as compared to Rs 120 crore in July last year.
Arunachal Pradesh has registered a growth of 69 per cent topping the list among Northeastern states followed by Manipur at 48 per cent and Tripura at 36 per cent. It had collected Rs 55 crore in July this year and Rs 33 core in July last year.
Meanwhile, Mizoram recorded a growth of 31 per cent, Assam 22 per cent, Nagaland 11 per cent and Sikkim 11 per cent.
Nationally, the gross GST revenue collected in July is Rs 1,16,393 crore of which CGST is Rs 22,197 crore, SGST is Rs 28,541 crore, IGST Rs 57,864 crore (including Rs 27,900 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is Rs 7,790 crore (including Rs 815 crore collected on import of goods).
GST collection, after posting above Rs 1 lakh crore-mark for eight months in a row, dropped below Rs 1 lakh crore in June this year as the collections during the month predominantly related to the month of May 2021. During May, most of the States/UTs were under either complete or partial lockdown due to COVID.
However, with easing of COVID restrictions, GST collection for July has again crossed Rs 1 lakh crore, which indicates that the economy is recovering at a fast pace. The robust GST revenues are likely to continue in the coming months too.
