Two held with country-made guns
TURA, Aug 5: Police in West Garo Hills on Thursday arrested two more persons in connection with a case of recovery of huge quantity of explosives from Ri Bhoi. The arrest of the two persons led to recovery of two country-made SBML guns from an area that falls under the jurisdiction of the Damalgre Police Station in South West Garo Hills. It may be recalled that earlier, police from WGH and Ri Bhoi, in a joint operation, recovered a large cache of explosive materials and other items from Ri Bhoi and arrested one person in this regard. With Thursday’s arrests, the total number of persons arrested in connection with the case has now gone up to 6.
Schools congratulate students
SHILLONG, Aug 5: The Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School (GPHSS) and St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School have congratulated its students for their performance in SSLC and HSSLC examinations, the results of which were declared on Thursday. According to a statement, while the GPHSS recorded a pass percentage of 98.61 per cent SSLC examinations, the St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School recorded a pass percentage of 100 per cent in both HSSLC Arts and SSLC examinations. The St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School has, meanwhile, congratulated its student, Minakshi Rawat, for securing 20th position in the SSLC examinations. On the other hand, the GPHSS has congratulated its student, Adarsh Sunar, for securing highest marks in Mathematics and Computer Science.
EJH villagers educated on vax
KHLIEHRIAT, Aug 5: The Office of the East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the Block Development Officer, Khliehriat, on Thursday conducted an awareness programme on COVID-19 and vaccination at Bataw village, East Jaintia Hills. According to a statement, the programme was organised with an objective to disseminate awareness among members of the self-help groups, CCMT and village leaders. It may also be mentioned that after the programme, a vaccination drive was conducted during which people numbering to 80 were vaccinated.
