ICAR organises fish seed distribution mela

SHILLONG, Sep 11: The Division of Animal & Fisheries Sciences, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, in collaboration with the Fisheries department, recently organised a ‘Fish Seed Distribution Mela’ at the Fish Dale Farm, Directorate of Fisheries, Shillong.
According to a statement, a total of 50 farmers from different parts of Meghalaya were selected by the Fisheries department for the programme.
Joint Secretary of Fisheries department, I Mawlong, who was the chief guest, flagged the issue of rising unemployment during the programme.
Making a reference to fish culture practices available through various government schemes, Mawlong appealed to the youths  to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in a scientific way.
Principal Scientist and In-Charge of Fisheries Section, DAFS, ICAR, Dr. SK Das, during the programme, outlined the objective behind the distribution of quality fish seeds.
“He also stressed upon growing quality fish seeds for enhancing fish production. The fish seeds are provided free of cost under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) of ICAR,” the statement said.
A technical session on ‘Importance of Quality Fish Seeds for Enhancing Fish Production from Mid-hill Aquaculture’ was also held, which was followed by an interaction session between the farmers and experts from ICAR.
