Sanbor moves MEA for Tirot Sing memorial in Dhaka

SHILLONG , Sep 18: Arts and Culture Minister, Sanbor Shullai, has petitioned Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar, for set-up of U Tirot Sing memorial on the premises of the Cultural Centre of the Indian High Commission, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In a letter to the MEA, Shullai stressed on the need to have cultural exchanges between Meghalaya and Bangladesh. He also accentuated the need to hold annual lecture between academicians and researchers from Meghalaya and Bangladesh.
Shullai also argued that border tourism should be encouraged between Meghalaya and Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned that only recently during a programme, the Commissioner and Secretary of Art and Culture department, Frederick R Kharkongor, had informed about state government seeking the support of Ministry of External Affairs for set up a Tirot Sing Memorial at the Cultural Centre of Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
