City resident held in New Delhi for ‘defrauding’ people
SHILLONG, Sep 20: A citizen of Shillong has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly defrauding people of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of increasing their rating on a popular karaoke mobile app. Police officials have informed that the man was arrested in the morning of September 17 by Delhi Police with the assistance of Laitumkhrah Police in connection with a case registered under Shalimar Police Station, Delhi. He was forwarded to a court here for transit remand. The accused has, however, been taken to New Delhi for interrogation. As per media reports, the accused has been identified as Mahavir Prasad Sharma, a resident of Nongthymmai. Delhi Police claims he is the senior manager in a cement company and has duped people of Rs 55 lakh till now.

Banking awareness among villagers
TURA, Sep 20: A mega farmers’ meet, an SBI initiative aimed at creating banking awareness among villagers, was organised recently by the SBI Tikrikilla at Pragatipur Deficit UP School, Abhirampara village, West Garo Hills. The programme was attended by around 6-7 village headmen from the area and over 90 locals from surrounding villages such as Laskarpara (Hajong), Dhalapara, Photomati, Batapara, Bordubi, Khasengdhap and Kangkorpara.

Livelihood prog for piggery farmers
TURA, Sep 20: A ‘Livelihood & Enterprise Development Programme’ for piggery farmers was on Monday organised by BAKDIL with support from NABARD at Bakdil training centre in West Garo Hills. The programme was held in the presence of District Development Manager, NABARD, South Garo Hills, Khelchandra Chongtham, and SMS Livestock Production, KVK Chokpot, Dr Rupam Bhattacharya, besides other officials including from the Veterinary department. The programme is expected to enhance the capacity of piggery farmers to better manage their piggery enterprises.

Swachhta Hi Seva launched in NGH
TURA, Sep 20: North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, RP Marak, on Monday launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ during a programme at the Multi Purpose Cooperative Society Hall in Mendipathar. The programme, which was organised under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, was followed a ‘Satyagrah Se Swachhgrah Rath Yatra’. Addressing the gathering, the DC informed that a series of cleanliness-oriented events will be observed by the PHE department as part of the programme in the district. Marak added that programme has been launched with an aim to enhance public participation in disseminating importance of sanitation and hygiene, and segregation and disposal of solid and liquid waste.
