Goalkeeper Manas Dubey joins TRAU FC on loan
Hyderabad, Sep 22: Young Hyderabad FC goalkeeper Manas Dubey has joined I-League side TRAU FC on a season-long loan deal, the club said on Wednesday. The 19-year-old has been with Hyderabad FC since 2019 as a part of the reserve side before joining the first team squad for the club under Manolo Marquez, during the 2020-21 Indian Super League campaign. The 6″5′ goalkeeper, who trained under HFC Goalkeeping Coach Marc Gamon last season, will look to continue his progress with the Manipur-based club. (PTI)

Rose Lavelle, Alex Morgan help US women rout Paraguay 8-0
CINCINNATI, Sep 22: Rose Lavelle thrilled her hometown fans with a goal and three assists in the first 15 minutes, Alex Morgan scored three goals and the United States women routed Paraguay 8-0 in an exhibition on Tuesday night. The U.S. topped Paraguay by a combined score of 17-0 in the two-game series in Ohio, following Thursday’s 9-0 win in Cleveland. The United States is in the midst of a four-game stretch following a disappointing bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The team is scheduled to host South Korea twice next month before a possible trip to Australia in November. (AP)

Murray beats Humbert in Moselle Open 1st round
Metz (France), Sep 22: Andy Murray sank home favourite and sixth seed Ugo Humbert to advance to the second round of the Moselle Open in Metz. The Scot looked set to pay the price for failing to convert a series of break point chances before he found his range to dispatch the world number 26 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Murray, a finalist in Metz in 2007, fell a set behind when Humbert seized his first opportunity with a flashing stop-volley to break for a 5-4 advantage, then served out for the set. The former world number one earned a second round meeting with Vasek Pospisil. (AP)

Marathon record holder Mary Keitany retires after injury
london, Sep 22: Marathon runner Mary Keitany retired from the sport on Wednesday because of a back injury, ending a career in which she won multiple races and set the world record for a women-only race. The 39-year-old Kenyan said pandemic-related travel restrictions have stopped her from coming to Europe to get treatment on an injury. “Every time I thought I had got over the injury and started training hard, it became a problem again,” Keitany said. “So now is the time to say goodbye – if only as an elite runner – to the sport I love so much.” Keitany won the London Marathon three times, in 2011, ’12 and ’17. Canelo Álvarez, Caleb Plant trade blows at news conference
Beverly Hills, Sep 22: Canelo Álvarez and Caleb Plant couldn’t wait until Nov. 6 to start throwing hands as they traded blows at their news conference Tuesday to promote their upcoming title unification bout, leaving Plant with a cut under his right eye. The fighters scuffled after exchanging verbal barbs during the ceremonial faceoff before the news conference began. Apparently in response to a comment from Plant about Álvarez’s mother, the Mexican superstar knocked Plant backward with a two-handed shove. “You can say whatever you want to me, but not about my mother,” Álvarez said afterward. Milan players face racism again
MILAN, Sep 22: For the second consecutive game, an AC Milan player was the target of racist chants. Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who is Black, used his Instagram account to raise awareness after being showered with discriminatory insults by Juventus fans during a 1-1 draw Sunday. “Do the people who take decisions know what it feels to hear insults that portray us as animals?” Maignan said. “I am not a ‘victim’ of racism. I am Mike, standing up, black and proud. As long as we will be able to raise our voice and make a difference, we’ll do it.” (AP)
