RT-PCR testing lab at Nongpoh CH
SHILLONG, Oct 1: The first mobile RT-PCR lab-based on CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, which is a family of DNA sequences) technology has been set up at Nongpoh Civil Hospital to test samples from entry point and others in collaboration with Tata Medical and Diagnostics. Following this, the turn-around time for samples is expected to be reduced by half. More such labs would come up in Jowai and Williamnagar in the near future.
Aadhaar enrolment drive in city
SHILLONG, Oct 1: The Office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the State Bank of India, Shillong Main Branch, is organising a ‘Camp Mode Aadhaar Enrolment Drive’ at the bank’s main branch here from October 4. In a statement, the DC’s office has requested public to visit the SBI, Shillong Main Branch, to avail various Aadhaar-related services such as new enrolment, demographic update, mobile number update, and biometrics update. Original supporting documents for proof of identity, proof of address and proof of date of birth are a prerequisite to avail the services.
Assam Rifles ADG relinquishes post
SHILLONG, Oct 1: Major General Sarab Jit Singh Deusi, a highly decorated officer who had held numerous important posts across the armed forces in a career spanning over 37 years, has finally superannuated on September 30 thereby relinquishing the post of the Additional Director General of Assam Rifles. He had taken over the command as the ADG of Assam Rifles on March 6, 2020. On the eve of his relinquishing of post, the ADG, in his last address to the force, complimented one and all for their outstanding efforts in various fields and wished them good luck in all their future endeavours.
Apprenticeship Mela on Oct 4
SHILLONG, Oct 1: Along with other state governments, the Meghalaya government will organise the Apprenticeship Mela on October 4 in every district/region within the state for engagement of apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The programme is expected to bring an excellent opportunity for engagement of apprentices to facilitate desired level of productivity with regard to giving an opportunity to apprentices for an exposure to actual job situation in the industry.
Prog on Int’l Day of Older Persons
SHILLONG, Oct 1: The District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, on Friday, observed the International Day of Older Persons at Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra. J Umdor, Block Development Officer, Shella-Bholaganj C&RD Block was the chef guest of the programme, which was attended by senior citizens of Sohra and its surrounding villages. Free medical and health check up camp was organised on the occasion and gifts were distributed to all senior citizens who attended the programme.
